Overview
Small Team, Big Impact
Our lean team, comprising marketing, content, and development staff, operated swiftly and efficiently. Leveraging Mercedes-Benz’s resources, my initial focus was securing the necessary support to achieve our ambitious goals.
My Contribution
Leading Pilot Initiative
I spearheaded a 4-month customer pilot program featuring an iOS beta app. My leadership involved leveraging research-driven insights to refine product concepts, culminating in their integration into the Mercedes-Benz digital framework post my tenure.
Vision
Enhancing Safety Across Vehicles
We envisioned to extend Mercedes-Benz’s standards to all car owners, through an app that detects collisions, facilitates emergency services, and analyzes data for continuous improvement.
Customer-driven
Customer Listening Early On
I utilized our customer database for surveys and interviews to assess idea acceptance and developed a system flow, prioritizing key features for the pilot while postponing complex functions like claim management.
Tactic #1
Collaborative Testing 🙌🏻
I implemented rapid high-fidelity mockup production and “hallway exhibitions” for immediate feedback, ensuring team alignment on the project’s direction.

Tactic #2
Balancing Priorities 🏋🏻
The pilot focused on validating both business objectives and customer needs. Features with immediate user impact were prioritized in the app for feedback, while background concepts were selectively highlighted.
Tactic #3
Leveraging Resources 💡
Resource constraints necessitated a focus on core tasks. Collaboration with the centralized UX research team allowed for efficient use of existing focus groups to evaluate our concepts, minimizing my direct research involvement when I need to focus on finalizing the app features.
My Reflections on Designing Concepts for a Global Digital System
1
Lead with Data-Driven Insights
How?
Leverage learnings from past experiments and existing customer and market insights to identify growth opportunities.
2
Beware of Tradeoffs
How?
Ensure conceptual designs are intentional and guided by testable hypotheses. Consider long-term implications during design.
3
Amplify Impact
How?
Use customer feedback from pilots to refine designs. Share insights cross-functionally to gain support and ensure a broader organizational impact.
